The Anti-Aging Score is a number that unifies the data from your eAntiAging Test into a general, quantifiable framework of information about your current health status and lifestyle from an anti-aging perspective. It represents a mathematical calculation derived from a summation of the various parameters of your age profile through quantitative analysis. Just as the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) indicates relative and comparative abilities and the Emotional Quotient (EQ) measures an individual’s social deftness, persistence, and empathy, the Aging Quotient provides a general indication of how well an individual is aging based on statistical analysis. Unlike an IQ which is difficult to improve upon, your Anti-Aging Score can be increased by incorporating anti-aging lifestyle adjustments.

Data collected from your eAntiAging Test is consolidated into various parameters. Each grouping is assigned a different weighing based on the review of the latest research in anti-aging medicine. An absolute quantification of your aging status is an impossible task. Therefore, the Anti-Aging Score attempts only to give you some general information regarding your health status from what are commonly known factors that play a role in aging and age-related diseases. This is only one of many tools that allows you to do further research on the matter. The average American score is from 90 to 100. There is no perfect score and no failing score.

Anti-Aging Score FAQs

What is Aging?

Aging can be defined as a disease state caused by a lifetime of assault to cells from both environmental and genetic causes leading to a slow deterioration and breakdown of bodily functions and eventual death.

How is aging now different from our concept of aging in the past?

The key word in this definition is DISEASE. By recognizing that aging is a disease, anti-aging physicians focus on diagnosis of and treatment of this condition.

Is aging caused by nature or by nurture?

Just as some are smarter or slimmer than others, some of us are born with the gene for longevity, while others may not be so well blessed. Until recently, conventional wisdom dictated that aging was inevitable and there was nothing you could do about it. Recent advances in scientific research on aging, however, point to the contrary. While we have yet the ability to deter aging forever, the overwhelming evidence now suggest that this disease we called aging is 70% caused by environmental and lifestyle factors, and 30% caused by genetic and hereditary factors.

What is effective aging?

Aging can be measured in a number of ways. Successful aging, the ultimate goal, depends on a variety of factors. Different people define success differently. For some, the mere fact that a person can live to be100 years old is success. Others may further define success in terms of quality of life and ability to be mentally alert throughout. In other words, living in a disease-free state or simply existing on this planet does not necessary equate to successful aging.

Think about intelligence, for example. Intelligence is a lot more than being able to recite Shakespeare after one reading or to calculate derivatives in your head. Webster defines intelligence as, "the ability to apprehend interrelationships of the perceived facts (and situations) in order to appropriately guide actions towards desired goals." In other words, intelligence entails, in addition to the ability to understand a situation, the identification of a problem, the approach to solve a problem, and ultimately, the final decision process to find the optimum solution. In the end, intelligence translates into effectiveness. Therefore, a person who is an effective problem solver is considered intelligent.

Defining aging therefore requires a deeper understand of what we feel are the criteria that makes us say: "Wow, I wish I can still be like this when I get old", vs. "Please let me die before I get to that age." Two elderly persons of the same age can behave totally different mentally and physically. They can appear to be up to 20 years apart, even if the health of both is relatively similar. This is not an unusual observation at all.

Like the Intelligence Quotient (IQ) is really a refection of how effective we process information, the Anti-Aging Score is really a reflection of how effectively we handle the aging process.

Definition of the Anti-Aging Score

Anti-Aging Score is a quantitative measurement of how effectively one handles the aging process

Why Anti-Aging Score?

The Anti-Aging Score was developed to give us a yardstick to measure the ability of a person to effectively progress throughout the aging process. A higher Anti-Aging Score does not mean a longer life. Longer life alone is measured by life expectancy calculations.

A higher Anti-Aging Score simply means that the individual has a higher chance of effectively dealing with the surroundings of an aging environment. In other words, an individual with a high Anti-Aging Score possess the ability to:

  • have a positive outlook
  • effectively face illness and death
  • recognize what it takes and what to do to deter the aging process as much as possible based on the latest scientific research
  • possess bodily functions that is representative of healthy aging

Measuring the Anti-Aging Score

The standard measure of intelligence is calculated by the IQ Test, which really only measures the presence of certain skills like memory, arithmetic, comprehension, and information comprehension. The IQ Test does not measure how effectively these skills are being applied in the real world.

Currently, there is no standard of measure for aging. There are too many variables to consider. Certainly, one basic criteria of successful or effective aging is longevity. If the average life expectancy in the United States is currently 75 years, an average person living to 75 years old would be considered as average from an Anti-Aging Score perspective. This is a relatively simple concept to grasp.

Take, on the other hand, two individuals of average health. One is 80 years old living an active lifestyle, living independently, and making day to day decisions on how he spends his time versus another person who is only 85 but is socially withdrawn and depressed and living in a nursing home. Who should have a higher Anti-Aging Score? It should be clear that age alone is insufficient as the only criteria to determine the Anti-Aging Score, given our definition of the Anti-Aging Score as a measurement of how effectively we handle aging. Other criteria such as social skills, physical skills, mental outlook, stress management, physical well-being, sexual function, and leadership skills all play a role towards determining the Anti-Aging Score. Its only when these factors are incorporated into the overall index do we have a quantitative measurement of how effectively one handles aging.

The Anti-Aging Score Toolbox

The Anti-Aging Score Test therefore endeavors to measure a number of different elements, each of which requires a specific set of parameters:

  1. Physical Health

Compared to our biological age, the physical age of a person reflects the sum total of how the body actually is behaving based on objective criteria (such as height and weight), subjective criteria (feeling of well-being as compared to others), statistical parameters (chances of heart disease given a family history), clinical observations (from experiences), and research studies by others (in published reports and scientific interpretation). The lower the physical age as compared to the chronological age, the slower the aging process

2. Hormonal Health

The neuro-endocrine theory is a major theory of aging. As our body’s endocrine system comes to a pause, our body starts to age. For example, menopause reflects the female’s ovaries entering into a state of hormonal pause, while adult type II diabetes can be considered the pausing of the pancreas, and hypothyroid reflects the pausing of our thyroid gland. The overall hormonal health therefore plays a role in aging. The poorer the hormonal health in general, the faster the aging process will be.

  1. Social and Emotional Health

Numerous researchers have shown that those who are socially active tend to lead a longer and healthier life. This is especially important for the elderly. Family and friends form the basic structure and foundation of emotional health.

  2. Diet

Next to air, food forms the largest contact we make with the environment. There is very little doubt that we are what we eat, and that a poor diet has a direct correlation with premature death. In addition, diets alone have been found to be linked with emotional health. Certain types of food, for example, tend to stimulate our body (such as caffeine) and alter our mental state. Factoring of a dietary component into the calculation adds an important dimension to the Anti-Aging Score.

  3. Exercise

Inevitably, those who are living an active aging lifestyle have exercise as a major part of their daily routine. It comes as no surprise as anti-aging exercise promotes not only physical health, but also hormonal and emotional health.

  4. Anti-Aging Supplementation

A balanced diet no longer guarantee our body of the optimum amount of nutrients for anti-aging purposes. Overwhelming researches are pointing to various vitamins in optimum dosages to have effect in deterring the aging process. Taking nutritional supplement reflects the total commitment and focus of an anti-aging lifestyle. It is commitment that warrants our quantification and measurement.

  5. Body Mass Index

Aside from its association to physical age, the body mass index itself has predictive value in forecasting heart disease and the risk of premature death, especially for those whose body mass index is 20% higher than the norm.

How is the Anti-Aging Score calculated?

The Anti-Aging Score reflects the summation of each of the above parameters in a weighted average. The weighing reflects the sum of a variety of factors including objective and subjective parameters.

What does the Anti-Aging Score mean?

The average score is 90-100. Most people score around this range. What it means is that your ability to effectively handle the aging process, given the data you supply, is similar to others.

A score of less than 90 means your ability to handle the aging process is less as compared to most others given the criteria we have set forth as parameters of successful aging.

A score of over 100 means your ability to handle the aging process is better as compared to most others given the criteria we have set forth as parameters of successful aging.

Very few people score higher than 120 or lower than 80.

There is no passing or failing score, and there is no right or wrong score.

Should I try to increase my Anti-Aging Score?

True intelligence involves understanding what you really want or need. Without that knowledge, you cannot apply yourself to solve any problem. Do not proceed with wanting to increase your Anti-Aging Score without asking yourself: "Why do I want to increase my Anti-Aging Scoret?"

Yes, most people do want to live longer. The real question is: "Do you want it bad enough to do what it takes (based on our scientific knowledge) to maximize your chances?" You know that there are no guarantees in life. Even if you do everything right, things can still go wrong. However, if you don’t take a proactive approach to longevity, then you are just increasing your chances of premature death.

The most powerful force of change comes from love. If you love yourself enough, you will change for the better. If you love your family and friends, you will be further motivated to change. Changes will only come easy for those who are serious. We are all creatures of habit. Change involves getting rid of old, bad habits and learning and adopting new ones. This is exciting, challenging, fun, and rewarding if you have the right mindset.

Give yourself time to make the decision. Do not embark into change without giving serious consideration and willingness to do what it takes. If you do not think carefully and make a commitment, chances are you will fail.

You should only try to increase your Anti-Aging Score if you have a burning desire that that’s something you want to do. Until you love yourself, you cannot love others. To love yourself, you need to be around and in good health. Otherwise, you are a burden to your loved ones.
